The Jaguar Display: Prepare to be Amazed by Classic Cars

We set out to understand why classic cars still hold such a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts. Our search led us to the Eastern Province Veteran Car Club’s Jaguar Display, where a collection of beautifully kept classic Jaguars gave us a clear answer.

Classic cars are not always easy to live with. Their technology can be difficult, their maintenance demanding, and their quirks unforgiving. But they have a grace that many modern cars still try to capture. Only a few ever really manage it.

As the sun began to set, the Jaguars became the centre of attention.

There is something instantly recognisable about an old Jaguar. The four headlights, the narrow grille, the long body lines — everything works together to create a shape that feels elegant without trying too hard. These cars do not need to shout. They simply arrive with presence.

One of the highlights was the Jaguar 420/Mark X, a true design icon powered by a 4.2-litre straight-six engine. The example on display had clearly been looked after with serious care. Its condition showed not only the owner’s dedication, but also the timeless charm that makes these cars so memorable.

Also on display was the XJR, a car that feels like Jaguar’s attempt to bring some of that old-school menace into a more modern package. In my opinion, they got it right. It looked beautiful, but with a darker edge. And when its 4.0-litre supercharged V8 came to life, it had the kind of growl that reminds you exactly why people fall in love with cars in the first place.

Spending time around these machines was a privilege. We are grateful to the owners for allowing us to enjoy their cars up close and for sharing a small part of their stories with us.
